About the Department
The history of each country is the guiding heritage for. its people . The people willl get
inspiration from the great deeds of their ancestors. History provides and recreates glorious past
of a country. Therefore. every society wants to be connected with its heritage on the basis of
which it plans to build a great future.This is the reason why great emphasis is placed on the
study of ancient history in all the countries .
Department of Ancient History,culture & archaeology is established in 2018, department of
ancient history,culture & archaeology is one of the permanent academic Department of
Jannayak chandrashekhar University,Ballia. It is a department offers postgraduate courses in
Ancient Indian History, giving emphasis to emerging areas like social History, intellectual History
and subaltern History. Department of ancient History unanimously persuaded multifaceted
terrain of research. Present faculty is engaged in the various aspects of mid ganga valley
History ranging from Ancient to Modern.
in view of the rich archaeological, artistic and historical potential of this region. The
Department made beginning in collecting objects of artistic and historical value as a curriculum.
In course of time this efforts emerged as a very impressive project. The present collection
includes pictures, stone sculptures, bronze, coins, miniature paintings etc.

Mission
To enhance the numerical graph of higher education amongst the youth of the region; enrich the
quality and standard of teaching and learning through modern technology & science; create
sound research background, excellent human resource with versatile personality, stimulate and
support pro-poor community activities and in doing so strengthen all round regional progress
and development.
The department is planning to emphasis on research activities with the support from the head of
the university. The faculty member will undertake Minor/Major research projects with financial
assistance from UGC, ICSSR and other funding agencies. For this, we would make the
maximum use of the computers in the teaching and research activities. The departmental library
will start functioning from next academic year and the department plans to subscribe the
referred journals relevant to the subject. Audio-visual teaching aids and internet would be used
limberly for class room instruction.
Vision

Department is keen to evolve new pedagogical tools. In that process departments of Ancient
history is using Films and Documentaries and audio-video materials

Department is promoting participatory method of learning. Department organizes student
seminars, quiz competitions, group discussion, open discussions to train students. It regularly
organizes tours to historical places, museums and tourist destinations. Student has to prepare
the reports based on their field visits

Department is innovative in employing different participatory mode of examination student are
asked to write book reviews, visit reports, report writing of the seminar conference and
workshops

Department uses modern technology like LCD projector and internet etc. for teaching

Department is keen in developing interdisciplinary inquiry in the field of history. It will enhance
the sphere of history by including various fields of historical studies; like Archaeology, Social
History, Cultural Studies, Anthropology, and Indology. Department will strive to emerge as the
premier Institute of Historical Studies

In view to connect history syllabus with contemporary challenges and to make history
learning applied with academic environment full of critical engagement department is thinking
of launching different certificate courses in coming future.

Department is also planning to start certificate courses in ‘Archaeological Studies’

Department is planning seriously foe History Museum which provides a glimpse into the
Varied and variegated aspects of India’s glorious heritage of art and cultural History.
