About the Department
Home Science is the application of Science and Art to mould the variety of life
skills of students. This course imparts them the knowledge and information to plan,
undertake and implement. The study involves an interdisciplinary approach in
synthesizing knowledge drawn from Physical, Biological, Social Science, Arts and
Humanities which has enriched the educational programmers’. It enables an individual
in improving their quality of life. Home Science provides a comprehensive knowledge
of Food and Nutrition, Human Development, Clothing and Textile, Extension
Education, Family Resource Management.
In view of the importance of this course, Jananayak Chandrashekhar
University established as a department in 2020 by the name of ‘Department of Home
Science’ at Jananayak Chandrashekhar University, Ballia under the integral part of
faculty of Arts, Humanity and Social Science, JNCU. The department offers two years
(4 semesters) of two post-graduation programmes (M.A.) in Food & nutrition and
Human Development. Students will be able to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge
and understanding of major two of the five branches of Home Science discipline; Food
& Nutrition and Human Development. Since its establishment, the department has
continued to employ exceptionally well-known professors. Pedagogies are changing
from being teacher-centered to being learner-centered. Through carefully planned
lectures, presentations, handouts, and book references, the teacher imparts material.
Discussion, group projects, and practical all aid in further knowledge consolidation, and
our department uses them. Now in present time Department of Home Science had four
Permanent Assistant Professors.
Mission & Vision
The mission of the Home Science department is empowerment of Woman and
girl students of rural and urban culture through scientific learning of different branches
as: Food and Nutrition &Human Development. It is establish an atmosphere of creative
endeavour that supports interdisciplinary collaborations, innovative projects, significant
research and informal discussions that mutually benefit students, faculty and the
community at large. It is also to maximize student’s potential by providing
multidimensional, skill oriented curriculum to generate income for their livelihood.
To portray the growth of Home Science and its application in various fields of
our day to day life and preparing the students to develop values and skills to promote,
personal, family and social responsibilities.
Future/ Strategic Plan
One year:

The department is planning to develop a departmental library corner.

The department is planning to develop a smart classroom (Smart board,projector, posters).

The department is planning to start Ph.D. programme.

To prepare students who have essential professional skill, human qualities and research aptitude.
- To aware students about their social responsibilities.

To make students financially independent through making food products, crafts,Decorative pieces and to sell these things through fair and exhibition.
Five year:

The department is planning to publish its own half-yearly/yearly research journal (if funds are granted)
- To conduct international & national seminar and conference as well.

Research projects to be undertaken with UGC, ICSSR and other research funding agencies.
- Internship and Placements of their students will be initiated in collaborations
with Govt. and Non Govt. organizations at local, state and national level.
- The department is planning to start new self finance courses (Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics, Food safety & quality control).
- The department is planning to provide guidance facility to their students for UGC- NET/PAT exam within the department premises on weekends.
- Strengthening the infrastructure, academic man power.
- Department will carry out various Cultural/Social activities related to nutrition and community development.
- The department is planning to develop a departmental library.
- The department is planning to start a new Post-graduation course in Extension Education.
