As a young and growing institution of higher education in eastern Uttar Pradesh, our University carries a responsibility that goes far beyond classrooms, examinations, and degrees. Jananayak Chandrashekhar University was established in 2016 under a State University Act by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, with the noble vision of bringing quality higher education closer to the people of Ballia. With the establishment of the University, Ballia gained its own state university, enabling its wide network of government, aided, and self-financed affiliated colleges to connect more directly with an institution rooted in the region. The University was created to serve the educational aspirations of this region and to ensure that students from urban, rural, and remote areas access meaningful opportunities for academic growth.
As an institution named after Jananayak Chandra Shekhar, former Prime Minister of India and one of Ballia's most distinguished public figures, we are inspired to uphold his ideals of courage, simplicity, public service, and intellectual independence. Ballia has earned national and international recognition with the designation of Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary, popularly known as Surha Taal, as India’s 100th Ramsar Site. This ecological landmark offers a unique opportunity for Jananayak Chandrashekhar University to integrate environmental stewardship with teaching, research, and community engagement.
