About the Department
Economics has the capacity to offer us deep insights into some of the
most formidable problems of life, and offer solutions to them too, combining a
global approach with examples from daily life. To meet this need, the
Department of Economics is committed to excellence in quality teaching and
innovative research. Presently the department is running two Post Graduate
Courses: M. A. and PhD. Along with it the department offers Value Added and
Minor Elective Courses for the students of other Disciplines. It is a well
established department of Jananayak Chandrashekhar University, Ballia with
four dedicated faculty members; Dr. Shashi Bhushan, Dr. Pragya Boudh, Dr.
Gunjan Kumar and Dr. Ram Sharan Yadav.
Mission & Vision
Mission
The mission of the department is to provide, through both teaching and
research, a better understanding of the global, national and local economic
issues that will face our society now and in the future. In this backdrop we aim:

To enable our students to become policy-literate and thus be more informed as citizens.

To become a premier centre for rural development and rural entrepreneurship in the region.

To promote cross-cultural, multi-cultural, and multi-regional studies and
research covering a large part of the country.

To moot activities for meeting the regional challenges in an increasingly
competitive, global and multicultural world.
Vision
To envision excellence in quality education and moulding intellectually
competent persons in economics, the department’s vision is to emerge as the
leading centre of teaching, research and extension activities. It aims to develop
intellectual skills, creative knowledge and economic skills among the students
for creating novel ideas. The district Ballia is situated on the bank of the river
Ganga and studying the erosion and flood related problems of the region is
important. Departmental research is focused on the various economic aspects of
both the problems, so that the economic development of this region can be
accelerated. Migration from this district is also observed in every corner of
India and the world. Department of Economics aims to continuously involve in the study of various economic aspects of migration from the region. The
department intends to develop itself into a specialized centre of study in Eastern
Uttar Pradesh specifically in the field of migration and the economics of river
erosion.
Future Plan/Strategic Plan of the Department for one year and for five years (separately)
In the one year time span the department of Economics has the following plan:

Department is focused on proper blending of 'quality' and 'relevance'. This is
sought to be achieved by periodic updating of syllabus in conformity with the
advancement of the knowledge in the subject with equal emphasis on theoretical
and applied economics.

Department is sought to start electives in the Master courses through the
consent of the board of studies: Mathematical Economics, Econometrics,
Industrial Economics, Health Economics and Labour Economics

Concerning the need of sustainable development, the department is planning
to introduce Environmental Economics as a compulsory course at the Post
Graduate Level.

Department of economics sought to offer Quantitative Analysis as a Value
added Course for the students.
